THe picture is some Indian Grass in our Weigh Station Prairie north of Litchfield. Illinois owes it's excellent soils to the fact that prairie grasses accumulated Nutrients and organic matter near the surface for thousands of years before the land was settled and farmed by Europeans. Did the Indians farm? Yes they did, but not as intensely as we do.
